News
HWI gets a permanent home – August 2024. Our first meeting there was in September 2024
We are very pleased to announce that we now have a permanent home at the Laratinga Community Shed, Mount Barker. Our sincere thanks to the Mount Barker Community Centre for supporting us in this.
We can store much of our equipment there, be able to hold more meetings, and expand our activities. We look forward to member’s input on activities they would like to see and how we can use this great opportunity
Grant from Rotary Club Stirling – June 2024
We are very pleased to have received a grant for the majority of the cost of purchasing a Robert Sorby ProEdge sharpening system from the Stirling branch of Rotary Australia. Thanks very much!
The Sorby proEdge is a very versatile sharpening system. With the appropriate accessories, it can sharpen many edged tools, including woodturning chisels, straight-edged joinery and carpentry chisels, hand plane blades, and more.
The sharpening process is well-defined and retains bevel angles easily and well. The tool is robustly built and expected to serve club members for many years.
Club members can benefit from this sharpener by bringing their tools to club meetings and using the tool, either with a trained person doing the work for them or by learning how to safely use the tool themselves.
Events: Hills Woodworkers at local shows
We demonstrate and promote the art of woodturning at some local shows. Members also get the opportunity to sell some of their work.
