Hills Woodworkers
Adrian Langley : Vice President of the Hills Woodworkers Inc.
Working with wood to make life better and easier has been with humans for centuries. A tree, a sharp edge for a tool and an idea of what to make was all that was needed. Now the process is the same but we have refined and made the tools more efficient, complex and capable so that truly useful and highly creative items can be made. We have worked out ways of making things more accurately, with greater artistry and longer life.
Hills Woodworkers aim is to promote fine woodworking in all its forms- turning, carving, cabinetry, chair making, scroll sawing and more. The skills we have learnt over many years can be passed to newer members in a supportive and encouraging and enjoyable way. As a member you can learn new skills or pass on skills you have mastered to others. We are an inclusive and growing group and encourage you to visit us if you have any interest in working with wood.
We encourage our members to design and make a piece to show at our monthly meetings. Each member can then describe the type of wood used and the process in making and finishing the piece. Many questions are asked and discussions are brought up about each individual piece. The knowledge and advice that comes from the members is invaluable to all members new and old, experienced or not.
